As an introduction, this chapter will first briefly explore the changing role of China in international investment, followed by an elaboration of the main forms of foreign investment in China. It then moves on to analyse aspects of the Chinese investment treaties, focusing on the evolution and features of the BIT programme and the legal status of investment treaties within the Chinese legal system. The chapter finishes with a brief introduction to the present book.
