From October 2000 to July 2001, Chinese foreign direct investment (FDI) laws and regulations underwent massive amendment. Three basic FDI laws, namely the China Foreign Equity Joint Venture Law (EJVL), the China-Foreign Contractual joint Venture Law (CJVL) and the Wholly Foreign-Funded Enterprises Law (WFEL) were revised. Two of the three Implementing Regulations of these basic laws, i.e. those of the EJV Land the WFEL, were modified.' The amendments have understandably drawn much attention in business and legal circles both within and outside Mainland China.)
